Lab Work Cost in Orlando, FL

Lab work in this comparison covers two common blood tests, each identified by a HCPCS code (Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System, a standardized billing code set). HCPCS 85025 is a Complete Blood Count (CBC) with Differential, which counts red cells, white cells, and platelets and breaks white cells into subtypes. HCPCS 80053 is a Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP), which measures a set of chemical values in a blood sample, including electrolytes, glucose, and kidney and liver markers. Both involve a blood draw and laboratory analysis. The facility fee is the hospital's charge for the staff, equipment, and laboratory processing. Prices below come from CMS-mandated hospital transparency files.

Data last accessed by us: 2026-10-15 · Newest hospital file date among hospitals below: 3/10/2026

Limited coverage: Orlando Health's Orlando-area hospitals, including Orlando Regional Medical Center, are not included: Orlando Health's website blocked downloads of its price files when we collected this data. Prices for the Orlando area come only from the AdventHealth, HCA Florida, UF Health and Nemours hospitals listed here, so they may not reflect the whole Orlando market.
Scope note: These are hospital lab fees only. Independent labs (Quest Diagnostics, LabCorp, etc.) typically charge significantly less for routine blood work but are not covered by the CMS Hospital Price Transparency Rule, so they are not included in this data.
Incomplete rows: Some hospitals publish $0 / blank amounts for this procedure in their transparency file. Those cells show as N/A and are excluded from the cash range above.

What These Prices Mean

Understanding the price columns
The gross charge is the hospital's full list price, also called the chargemaster rate. The cash price is the rate offered to patients paying without insurance. The insured range shows the lowest and highest negotiated rates across payers. At UF Health Leesburg, the CBC gross charge is $41 and the cash price is $22.55, or 55% of gross. At AdventHealth Orlando, the CBC cash price equals the $534 gross charge, a 100% ratio. A larger percentage discount does not always mean a lower price: UF Health The Villages applies the same 55% ratio to its CMP, yet its $95.70 cash price is still higher than several insured rates elsewhere. Patients on high-deductible plans who have not met their deductible owe the negotiated rate, not the gross charge.

Code variations
The CMP (80053) tests more analytes than the CBC (85025), and it generally carries a higher price. At UF Health Leesburg, the CMP cash price is $24.75 versus $22.55 for the CBC, a $2.20 difference. At UF Health The Villages, the CMP is $95.70 versus $30.80, a $64.90 difference. At Nemours Children's Orlando, the CMP is $571 versus $255, a $316 difference. At AdventHealth Orlando, the CBC ($534) is higher than the CMP ($458), so the pattern is not universal.

Why Lab Work Prices Vary

Hospital pricing structures
Gross charges for these tests span a wide range. For the CBC, gross charges run from $41 at UF Health Leesburg to $534 at AdventHealth Orlando, a gap of $493. For the CMP, gross charges run from $45 at UF Health Leesburg to $2,958 at HCA Osceola, a gap of $2,913. The cash price gap is similar in size for the CMP, because most hospitals in the dataset set the cash price equal to the gross charge (100%). Only the two UF Health hospitals apply a discount, setting cash prices at about 55% of gross. Five hospitals (HCA Lake Monroe, HCA Osceola, HCA Oviedo, HCA Poinciana, and UCF Lake Nona) list $0 for the CBC, which indicates incomplete data rather than a real price.

Facility type and alternatives
The dataset includes community hospitals, a children's hospital, and an academic-affiliated hospital. Facility type does not track price in a simple way: the lowest cash prices appear at two UF Health community hospitals, while the highest CMP cash prices appear at HCA Osceola, HCA Poinciana, and UCF Lake Nona. Outpatient or freestanding laboratories are not in this dataset and may charge differently. Cash prices for these tests range from $22.55 to $2,958.

Paying cash? Health insurance could lower your Lab Work cost.

Published cash prices on this page range from $22.55 to $2,958 (including hospitals that publish cash equal to gross charge, marked with * in the table). The lowest insured rate in the price table is $2.57 (HCA Florida Poinciana Hospital). Insured rates depend on the plan, and the lowest are often Medicaid, CHIP or Medicare Advantage plans, so they may not reflect what a commercial or marketplace plan pays. If you are uninsured, a marketplace health plan could reduce your out-of-pocket cost for this procedure.

What to Do With These Lab Work Prices

Get the test list before you call. Ask the ordering office for the exact code on every test, such as 80053 for a CMP or 85025 for a CBC with differential. One blood draw can carry several codes plus a separate specimen collection (venipuncture) charge, so ask the hospital for an itemized estimate that lists each one, and ask for its cash or self-pay price per code.

Judge a quote against the real spread. At AdventHealth Orlando, the CMP cash price is $458, while the insured rates published for that same code run up to $27.98. Eight of the 10 hospitals list cash equal to gross, so a cash quote near the gross charge is common here. The two UF Health hospitals in this dataset publish lower cash figures, such as $22.55 for a CBC at UF Health Leesburg Hospital. A quote far above those numbers is worth questioning.

Read the bill for more than the tests.

  • Count the tests billed and look for the same panel listed twice.
  • Look for a venipuncture or specimen handling line.
  • Check whether the hospital lab billed a facility charge and a separate pathologist or physician office billed a professional fee.

Know what this page leaves out. Five of the 20 rows have a gross charge posted as $0 or blank, and 5 rows have no cash price. That means missing data, not a free test. Independent labs are not in this dataset, and they can price the same test very differently from a hospital outpatient lab, so ask the ordering office whether the order can go elsewhere.

Financial assistance and discounts. Nonprofit hospitals are required to publish a financial assistance policy, and the billing office can send it with an application. Some hospitals also offer prompt-pay or self-pay discounts; these vary by hospital and are not included in this data. If you are uninsured or not using insurance for scheduled care, you can ask the provider for a good faith estimate before the appointment.

What Patients Ask About Lab Work Costs

How much does a lab work cost without insurance in Orlando?

Without insurance, cash prices for the CBC (85025) are $22.55 at UF Health Leesburg, $30.80 at UF Health The Villages, $255 at Nemours Children's Orlando, $354.90 at AdventHealth Waterman, and $534 at AdventHealth Orlando. Five hospitals list $0 for this code, which appears to be incomplete data. For the CMP (80053), cash prices are $24.75 at UF Health Leesburg, $95.70 at UF Health The Villages, $416 at HCA Oviedo, $458 at AdventHealth Orlando, $483.81 at AdventHealth Waterman, $498 at HCA Lake Monroe, $571 at Nemours, $2,453.08 at UCF Lake Nona, $2,885 at HCA Poinciana, and $2,958 at HCA Osceola. The overall range is $22.55 to $2,958. These are facility fees; physician or professional fees are billed separately.

Why is the gross charge so much higher than the cash price?

The gross charge, or chargemaster price, is a hospital's full list price before any discounts or negotiated rates. Almost no one pays it. At UF Health Leesburg, the CBC cash price of $22.55 is 55% of the $41 gross charge. At UF Health The Villages, the CMP cash price of $95.70 is 55% of the $174 gross charge. At AdventHealth Orlando and several other hospitals, the cash price equals the gross charge (100%). A larger percentage discount can still produce a higher cash price when the starting gross is higher: UF Health The Villages' $95.70 CMP cash price exceeds UF Health Leesburg's $24.75 despite the identical 55% ratio.

Does insurance cover a lab work?

Coverage depends on your plan and whether the test is considered medically necessary. Negotiated rates vary widely: for the CMP, the 716 payer rates in the data run from $10.35 to $2,958, and for the CBC, the 120 payer rates run from $10.10 to $234.60. Non-emergency testing may require prior authorization depending on the plan, and it is worth confirming the lab is in your plan's network. If you have a high-deductible plan and have not met your deductible, you owe the negotiated rate for the test, not the gross charge, until the deductible is satisfied.

Are there additional fees beyond the lab work facility charge?

Yes. The prices listed here are facility fees, meaning the hospital's charge for the staff, equipment, and laboratory processing. For lab work, the ordering physician typically reviews results as part of a separate office visit rather than as a standalone fee, and that visit is billed separately. Some laboratory tests may also involve a separate professional interpretation charge billed by a pathologist. If the blood draw takes place in an emergency department, a separate ER facility fee applies. These additional charges are billed separately from the lab test price, and they are not included in the figures in this comparison.

What is the cash price for a CBC with differential at UF Health Leesburg Hospital?

The published cash price for code 85025 (Complete Blood Count with Differential) at UF Health Leesburg Hospital is $22.55, against a gross charge of $41. The cash price is 55% of gross. This is a facility charge only and does not include any separate professional fees.

Which Orlando hospitals publish a cash price below the gross charge for lab work?

Only UF Health Leesburg Hospital and UF Health The Villages Hospital publish cash prices below gross charges, at 55% of gross for both codes. The other 8 of 10 hospitals on this page list cash equal to gross. For example, AdventHealth Orlando lists $458 for code 80053. These are facility charges only.

How much does Florida Blue pay for lab work in Orlando hospitals?

Florida Blue's published rates on this page range from $10.56 at AdventHealth Orlando to $348.31 at Nemours Children's Hospital, Florida, with a median of $53.01 across 10 hospitals. The highest is about 33x the lowest. These are facility rates only, covering codes 80053 and 85025.

Why is there no cash price listed for CBC code 85025 at some Orlando hospitals?

Five of the 20 price rows on this page have a gross charge published as $0 or blank, and the cash price is also missing there. These are code 85025 rows at HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital, HCA Florida Osceola Hospital, HCA Florida Oviedo Medical Center, HCA Florida Poinciana Hospital and UCF Lake Nona Hospital. Missing does not mean free.
